Hi there!!! My name is Bev. I am a 21 year old who lives in the UK. I previously used to live in Zimbabwe, Africa, where I was involved in a car accident in 1997 at the age of 12, which left me a C3 quadriplegic with no movement or sensation from just below my shoulders. I had to deal with the ordeal of being a popular girl who was involved in everything to someone who had to deal with being confined to a wheelchair as well as losing my mom in the same accident. Fortunately I was of such a young age and had come from a close family that I did not realize at the time what an effect it would have on my entire life and put all my trust into my dad, who has been my pillar of support along with my brother.
I was accepted as a patient of the International Spinal Cord Regeneration Center by Dr. Ramirez in 1998. To cut a long story short - I went to Mexico to have surgery in July 2001 and receive more injections. After spending two 2 months there, much physiotherapy, electro-stimulation, and the initial improved sensation down my back and slight movement of my left thumb I did not receive much improvement. I believe that there is something in my spine stopping the generation of my spinal cord and I need to be examined by Dr. Ramirez again. I have been updated on the latest developments and it puts me in high hopes.
I believe that Dr. Rameriz and his work is the key, if not the cure, to my spinal cord injury. I have never believed that I would be paralyzed for the rest of my life. I will continue to fund raise and work towards continuing my treatment until I succeed.
